Netiquette.

Hey Guys,

Today I will be blogging about my top ten ‘Netiquette’ rules to follow when you are online. For you guys who don’t know what netiquette is, let me fill you in. Netiquette is how you should behave on the internet, what guidelines to follow. It is put simply etiquette for the internet.

  1. Try to avoid sarcasm, some people can’t understand it. Especially on the net.
  2. When you use Caps Lock, this means it is meant to be read as if you are shouting at the reader. Do you really need to shout at them? Leave it for the school yard.
  3. Think before you post. Would your Mum be okay with you posting that comment or photo? If the answer is no, don’t do it.
  4. Make yourself look good online, you never know. A future employer could be looking at your page.
  5. Don’t talk to strangers. If an unknown person messages you, delete the message and don’t reply.
  6. Respect other peoples thoughts and opinions. Just because you don’t agree with it, doesn’t mean you can shout it from the rooftops and challenge them.
  7. Speak to people as you would in real life. Try to use full sentences, don’t use the screen as a mask or shield to say mean things.
  8. Italics can sometimes come across as if you are bragging, or making fun of somebodies opinion. Use normal ‘upright’ font, this appears to be more genuine.
  9. Use emoji’s to provide more information. For example, I could say, ‘I love your new haircut.’ But the person I’m sending it to might think I’m being sarcastic. If you put a heart eyed emoji this reflects back to what you wrote and how you actually mean it.
  10. Use proper grammar. On the net your future employer might come across your comments or blog posts. If you use proper grammar and full words instead of BRB, TTYL you often appear to be more educated and a more polite person.

Game On! Review

Hey Guys,

Today I’m going to do a blog reviewing the Aussie TV show Game On!

Game On! Is an Australian television series, made to educate pre-teens and teenagers about cyber safety. The director is Nik Wansbrough, produced by Kate Betts and written by Michael Cove and Tim Maricic.

The show is set in a regular Australian school. It begins with 2 boys, Joel and Dean who are addicted to an online game. The Joel and Dean play together until the early hours of the morning, causing them to get absolutely no sleep. Dean and Joel’s teacher picks up on it and sends them to see the principle. There is also a group of girls. One girl’s online page has been hacked (supposedly). She tells her dad about it, who then goes to investigate, while she thinks about who might have done it.

The show is great because it is set in a proper school, giving student aged people a place to relate. It also is good because it shows the problems that are quite common in our age group. These problems are all on the internet, or involving technology. If you want to read about some positives about the internet and technology make sure to check out my previous post.

The acting was not the best, making the show a little bit cringe-worthy. Actually not a little bit, ALOT.

If the acting improved, the show would be a million times better.

Overall I really enjoyed the show.

Positives and Negatives of the Internet.

Hey Guys,

The internet is an amazing place filled with positives, but like most things there are negatives too.

The internet is a great way to get things done faster. A job, like looking up information can be done in a click of the enter button. If we used a book, it could take hours just to find what we want. With so many books in a library it takes ages. Search engines quickly find sources and puts them up on your screen, often in under a second.

Technology is creating so many new jobs. It’s true when they say the future is technology. Each day people are employed to work with computers, creating new products, and designing websites for companies.

But technology is slowly taking jobs away from humans. Soon we wont have a checkout personnel to scan our delicious food, and pop it into a bag for us. It could be a robots at the checkout.

Some of us are Pro’s at procrastination or livin’ it up in procrastination nation. The internet and technology is where a lot of our procrastination comes from, whether its surfing the net for hours to avoid doing your homework or falling into the dark corner of YouTube. (cat videos). The internet is a huge distraction which quite often stops us from doing our work.

The internet and technology has its upsides and downsides, and those were only a few.

❤ Kim.
